The Benefits of SUP Boarding

(and where to do it!)

Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Boarding is a challenging and fun way to get a killer workout this summer! If you’ve never tried it, SUP consists of kneeling or standing on a long surfboard-like board and using a paddle to paddle out to sea.

SUP Boarding has been around for eons. Its roots can be found in Peru over 2,000 years ago, as well as in Italy and Israel. Modern manifestations of the sport generally all come from Hawaii, and the sport really took off in popularity in the early 2000s.

With all the benefits of SUP Boarding, it’s no wonder that millions of people have tried it! Here are just a few of our favorite benefits of SUP Boarding:

It’s a great way to build muscle

SUP boarding requires a strong core and legs to maintain your balance. Beginners can start out on their knees and paddle while they build the strength and balance needed to eventually stand upright on their board.

It’s a great cardio workout

Maintaining your balance and paddling, especially in any kind of wavy conditions, is going to get your heart rate up!

It’s an awesome bonding activity

SUP boards come made for 1, 2, or even 6 people! Enjoy a solitary meditation on your board, or grab your partner, friends, or family and hop on a board together! An added benefit of SUP boarding with others is that one can hang out on the board while the other enjoys snorkeling or swimming, and vice versa.

Vitamin D and fresh air are good for your health

Getting some time in the sun will help your body produce vitamin D, which is crucial for healthy bones and a sunny disposition! But don’t forget your sunscreen and hat.

It’s another excuse to get out in nature!

Once you fall in love with SUP boarding, you’ll find all kinds of amazing new places to visit.
